Our verdict

Our verdict4.1

For a French tax resident, BoursoBank is a natural place to hold a PEA and a securities account, and the reasons are structural. Boursorama SA is a licensed French bank inside the Société Générale group, supervised by the ACPR and the AMF and listed by the ECB within a significant banking group; cash and securities sit under the French FGDR scheme; and the parent publishes audited accounts as a CAC 40 company. On cost the picture depends on tariff and account. Small orders are cheap: EUR 1.99 up to EUR 500 on Découverte, and in a PEA never more than 0.5% of the order, so EUR 0.50 on a EUR 100 purchase. More than 275 Boursomarkets ETFs carry no purchase commission, there is no custody fee, and Découverte has no monthly charge. The weaknesses are real too. Outside a PEA, the Découverte rate of 0.60% above EUR 500 is expensive for mid-sized orders, Classic and Trader charge EUR 5.95 in any month without an executed order, other European markets start at EUR 11.95, and currency is converted at the next-day rate plus a 0.0025-point margin. We found no listed options or futures in its product list or price brochure, and crypto comes only as ETNs. We found service only in French, and it is digital-first. For most readers of this site, residency settles it: the account is built around a French tax address, phone number and IBAN, and foreign tax residents get in only under conditions and without US market access.

Best for

  • French residents
  • PEA investors
  • Low-cost ETF savers
  • Small monthly investors

Less suitable for

  • Investors living outside France
  • Options and futures traders
  • Direct crypto buyers
  • Investors who need English-language service

Pros & cons

Pros

7
  • Four Euronext tariffs, from Découverte at EUR 1.99 per order up to EUR 500 to Ultimate Trader at EUR 9.90 up to EUR 10,000 for 30 or more orders a month
  • Brokerage on a PEA, PEA 18-25 or PEA-PME is capped at 0.5% of the order, so a EUR 100 PEA order on Découverte costs EUR 0.50
  • More than 275 Boursomarkets ETFs with no commission on purchase (75 of them PEA-eligible), plus partner funds and leverage products without brokerage
  • No custody fee, free account opening and closing, and no monthly charge on the Découverte tariff
  • Boursorama SA is a French bank authorised by the ACPR, supervised by the ACPR and the AMF, and part of the ECB-supervised Société Générale group, listed on Euronext Paris as GLE
  • Acts as French paying agent: annual IFU, social contributions and the advance tax deducted on dividends, and the TTF collected on purchases
  • A large free information service: real-time Euronext streaming, daily market briefings, partner analyses and the Bourso Campus video course

Cons

5
  • Built for French tax residents: the app route expects a French tax address, a French phone number and possibly a French IBAN, foreign tax residents get in only 'under certain conditions' through a separate route, and they may not trade US markets
  • We found no listed options, futures or CFDs in BoursoBank's product list or price brochure, and direct crypto is not offered (crypto only via ETNs); we found no fractional shares and no demo trading account beyond virtual portfolios
  • Outside a PEA, Découverte charges 0.60% above EUR 500, and Classic and Trader cost EUR 5.95 in any month without an executed order
  • Other European markets start at EUR 11.95 per order, and currency is converted at the next-day rate plus 0.0025 points
  • We found service only in French (the general terms make French the sole binding language): phone Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00 and Saturday 08:45–16:30, otherwise the Bourso.IA chatbot (24/7) and written requests through the client area

Boursorama's general terms (applicable from 15.04.2026) state that it is a member of the French FGDR. Per the FGDR (checked 02.11.2026), cash deposits are covered up to EUR 100,000 per depositor and institution, and cash held for a securities account counts towards that same limit when the account-keeper is a bank. Securities are covered separately up to EUR 70,000 per client and institution, and only if they have disappeared and the institution cannot return them; the client remains the owner of the securities, and a fall in their market value is not covered.

Full review: BoursoBank

This review is based on official pricing schedules, legal documents and other available sources. It does not claim that we opened an account with this broker or tested it in practice.

Fees: four tariffs, Boursomarkets and the PEA cap

BoursoBank prices Euronext orders (Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and the extended evening session) through four tariffs. You choose one when opening the account and can change it once per calendar year free of charge; a change in the first year after opening, or a second change in the same calendar year, costs EUR 119.

TariffFixed fee per orderAbove thatMonthly charge
DécouverteEUR 1.99 up to EUR 5000.60% of the orderNone
Classic (CTO only)EUR 5.50 up to EUR 1,0000.48%, minimum EUR 8.95EUR 5.95 in a month without an executed order
TraderEUR 16.65 up to EUR 7,7500.22%EUR 5.95 in a month without an executed order
Ultimate TraderEUR 9.90 up to EUR 10,0000.12%EUR 119 in a month with fewer than 30 executed orders

Worked through the brochure valid from 5 October 2026: a EUR 1,000 order costs EUR 6.00 on Découverte; a EUR 2,000 order costs EUR 9.60 on Classic and EUR 16.65 on Trader; a EUR 10,000 order costs EUR 22.00 on Trader and EUR 9.90 on Ultimate Trader; a EUR 20,000 order costs EUR 24.00 on Ultimate Trader. Ultimate Trader only makes sense at 30 or more orders a month, and the brochure sets a three-month minimum membership for it.

The PEA cap changes the picture for small savers. In a PEA, PEA 18-25 or PEA-PME, brokerage is capped at 0.5% of the order, so a EUR 100 order on Découverte costs EUR 0.50 instead of EUR 1.99, and above EUR 500 the cap undercuts the 0.60% rate.

Boursomarkets is the partner range with no purchase commission: more than 275 ETFs (75 of them PEA-eligible), partner funds, CoinShares crypto ETNs and turbos from Société Générale and Goldman Sachs. Selling a Boursomarkets ETF costs the normal Euronext tariff, and BoursoBank states that it receives commissions from these partners.

There is no custody fee, account opening and closing are free, and Découverte carries no monthly charge at all.

Safety: a Société Générale bank under ACPR, AMF and ECB supervision

BoursoBank is the trade name of Boursorama SA, a société anonyme with share capital of EUR 53,576,889.20, registered in Nanterre under RCS 351 058 151 and based at 44 rue Traversière in Boulogne-Billancourt. Its legal notice describes it as a subsidiary of Société Générale and as a French credit institution authorised by the ACPR and supervised by the ACPR and by the AMF as a bank providing investment services. The ACPR's REGAFI register lists it as a credit institution under interbank code 40618, with BoursoBank recorded as a trade name since 22 February 2023.

The European Central Bank's list of supervised entities (cut-off 1 September 2026) names Boursorama among the entities of the Société Générale group, which the ECB supervises directly as a significant institution. The parent Société Générale is listed on Euronext Paris under the ticker GLE (ISIN FR0000130809) and belongs to the CAC 40, so group accounts are audited and public.

Protection comes from the French FGDR:

  • Cash is covered up to EUR 100,000 per depositor and institution; cash held for a securities account counts towards that same limit when the account-keeper is a bank.
  • Securities are covered separately up to EUR 70,000 per client, but only if they have disappeared and the institution cannot return them. Client securities remain the client's property, and a fall in their market value is not covered.

Order execution is outsourced. Under the general terms Boursorama receives and transmits orders rather than acting as an exchange member (it is a market member of Börse Stuttgart only): Euronext orders go to Société Générale, other European orders to Bernstein-SG France and US orders to Bernstein Institutional Services.

We could not search the AMF's sanctions list (its search runs on JavaScript). The ACPR's published collection of sanctions decisions (read on 2 November 2026) names no decision against Boursorama, but it publishes some decisions without naming the institution, and it does list decisions against the parent Société Générale, most recently on 13 May 2026 in its capacity as an insurance intermediary. No regulator actions against Boursorama are recorded here; that is not the same as saying there are none. SRD positions use leverage and can lose more than the capital committed. None of this makes any broker guaranteed safe.

Platforms: the client area, the BoursoBank app and ProRealTime

BoursoBank runs brokerage inside its banking client area on the web and in the BoursoBank app; its help pages state that every operation available in the client area can also be done in the app.

Order types listed in the general terms include limit, market, stop with a trigger price, stop range, trailing stop, 'Ordres Tactiques' and Trading at Last. The brochure and the product pages list a set of free tools: a customisable Trading Board, price and news alerts, real-time Euronext streaming (Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Lisbon), virtual portfolios for trying out strategies, a performance view (Ma Performance) and aggregation of accounts held at other banks. US real-time quotes cost EUR 2 a month and are free on Ultimate Trader.

Extended hours run from 17:35 to 22:00 on more than 100 shares and ETFs. Under the general terms these orders are executed through Société Générale's systematic internaliser rather than on Euronext itself.

The app requires iOS 15.5 or Android 7.0 and supports biometric login. BoursoBank's Q3 2026 press release cites average store ratings of 4.88 on the App Store and 4.80 on Google Play for July to September 2026, based on Sensor Tower data; those are the company's figures, not ours.

Active traders can add ProRealTime from EUR 29.95 a month (free on Ultimate Trader), with extra data feeds and the integrated-order option at EUR 29.95 a month each.

The toolkit suits investors better than day traders. Beyond the virtual portfolios we found no demo trading account, and no public trading API, so systematic strategies are not what this platform is built for.

Markets and products

The ordinary securities account (CTO) gives access, by BoursoBank's count, to more than 3,500 international shares (France, Europe, United States), more than 800 ETFs, more than 1,200 funds and more than 150,000 leverage products such as turbos, warrants and certificates. Beyond that sit crypto ETNs, FIP/FCPI and FCPR private-equity funds, SCPI property funds, property crowdfunding and tailor-made structured products.

Foreign markets are priced separately, the same on every tariff:

MarketFixed feeAbove thatEUR 10,000 order
US (NYSE, Nasdaq)EUR 6.95 up to EUR 6,0000.12%EUR 12.00
Other European marketsEUR 11.95 up to EUR 4,0000.30%EUR 30.00

The European list in the help pages covers non-euro securities on Euronext, Frankfurt, Milan, London, Madrid and Zurich. Currency outside the euro area is converted at the rate of the day after the trade plus 0.0025 points. Since 1 April 2026 a US fee of 0.00206% (minimum USD 0.01) applies to every sale on Nasdaq and NYSE, and only French tax residents may trade US markets at all.

The SRD (deferred settlement) offers leverage of up to five times on more than 230 French stocks. A position opened and closed on the same day carries no deferred-settlement commission; otherwise it costs 0.0233% per day, and rolling a position into the next month costs 0.3588% (0.1794% on Ultimate Trader), minimum EUR 11.95.

The gaps matter as much as the range. We found no listed options or futures in either BoursoBank's list of tradable products or its price brochure, the help pages rule out direct commodities and direct crypto (crypto only via ETNs), and BoursoBank offers no subscriptions to foreign IPOs or to primary-market bonds. Complex products such as turbos, private-equity funds and the SRD require an appropriateness questionnaire under MiFID II.

PEA, PEA-PME and French tax handling

For a French resident the account wrapper matters more than the last cent of commission, and BoursoBank offers all of the main ones.

  • PEA: contributions up to EUR 150,000; only shares of French and European companies and eligible funds. Gains withdrawn within five years bear 12.8% income tax plus 18.6% social contributions; after five years only the 18.6% social contributions remain.
  • PEA-PME: contributions up to EUR 225,000, a ceiling shared with the PEA; shares, funds, bonds and crowdfunding securities of small and mid-sized companies.
  • PEA 18-25 ans: for 18 to 25-year-olds attached to their parents' tax household, capped at EUR 20,000, and converted into a standard PEA after 25.
  • CTO: gains and dividends taxed under the 31.4% flat tax (PFU) or, by option, the progressive income-tax scale.

BoursoBank acts as the French paying agent. For French tax residents it deducts the 18.6% social contributions and the advance income-tax payment on dividends unless the client is exempted from the advance payment (dispense d'acompte). Foreign dividends bear treaty withholding tax, after which BoursoBank applies a 17.7% tax credit that appears on the coupon statement and on the annual IFU (Imprimé Fiscal Unique). The IFU for tax year 2025 was published in the client area under 'Documents fiscaux'.

The French financial transaction tax (TTF) of 0.40% applies to purchases of shares of French companies with a market capitalisation above EUR 1 billion. BoursoBank charges it to the buyer on both the CTO and the PEA; SRD trades are exempt unless the shares are delivered at the end of the month.

An existing PEA or CTO can be moved in through 'Mobilité Bourse', and for a first full transfer BoursoBank refunds twice the fees charged by the previous bank, up to EUR 3,000. Moving out costs EUR 15 per line on a PEA (capped at EUR 150) and EUR 17.85 per line on a CTO (EUR 29.80 for securities held abroad).

Account opening, funding and who can join

BoursoBank is built for people who live and pay tax in France. The standard route runs through the app: an EU or Swiss identity card or passport, or a French residence permit, plus a video selfie and possibly the IBAN of an account held in France in your name. Without a French IBAN, French phone number or French tax address, or with only a Portuguese or Belgian identity card, you are referred to the Service Commercial. BoursoBank states that foreign tax residents can open an account only 'under certain conditions' through a separate route outside the app, and even then they may not trade US markets.

The bank account opens within minutes by BoursoBank's figure and the card ships within three business days. A CTO, PEA or PEA-PME is opened within 24 business hours, requires the BoursoBank bank account and is reserved for adult individuals; a joint securities account can only be requested on the website. The first deposit can be made with a card issued by another French bank and is credited immediately, and an account can be opened without any first deposit.

Money moves between the bank account and the brokerage accounts by free internal transfer. SEPA and instant SEPA transfers are free, a standard SEPA transfer takes one to three business days, sending a non-SEPA transfer in euros costs EUR 20, and receiving a non-SEPA or foreign-currency transfer costs 0.1% (minimum EUR 20) plus a 1% exchange margin. The bank account carries no account fee; the Visa Welcome card is free without condition, while a physical Visa Ultim costs EUR 9 in any month without a card payment.

As of 2 November 2026 the CTO page advertised up to EUR 180 for new clients with the code BBKOPE180, tied to a first individual bank account opened from 6 October 2026, a first deposit of at least EUR 300, a card payment in each of the following three months and use of the EasyMove account-switching service. Promotions change often, so read the current terms before relying on one.

Research, education and support

Research is where BoursoBank's origins show: the group started in 1995 as the online broker Fimatex and runs the Boursorama information portal, which its Q3 2026 press release puts at 157 million visits a month. For investors BoursoBank counts more than 250,000 available quotes, more than 27,000 news items published each month and more than 60 news-feed providers. The brochure lists partner sector analyses, a daily Morning Meeting, a weekly stock-market newsletter and the 'Objectif Rendement' model portfolios of Roland Laskine as free services. The Boursomarkets page adds a daily two-minute 'Debrief Bourse', a weekly 'Trade ou pas Trade' show and a twice-monthly '100% ETF' programme, plus videos, podcasts and webinars reserved for clients.

Education is organised under Bourso Campus: 30 teaching videos in three levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) with 30 quizzes; saving your progress requires a login. It is introductory material, aimed at people opening their first PEA rather than at derivatives traders.

Advice is limited by design. BoursoBank describes its standard brokerage as reception and transmission of orders and offers advice only for the managed PEA ('gestion profilée') and the CEFP, an advised account built with ODDO BHF Asset Management with four profiles, no entry or exit fees and a EUR 100 minimum. A monthly Plan d'Épargne invests from EUR 10 per fund on the 10th of each month in eight index-tracking funds.

Support: we found service only in French (the general terms make French the sole binding language), and it is digital-first. The Bourso.IA chatbot answers 24/7 and can arrange a callback from an adviser; written requests go through 'Aide & Contact' in the client area, and the price brochure valid from 5 October 2026 gives the non-surcharged customer-service line 01 46 09 49 49, staffed Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday from 08:45 to 16:30. For a reader who does not speak French, that is a practical barrier even before residency.

Only in limited cases.
