Our verdict
Futubull is a strong choice for a Hong Kong resident who trades actively across Hong Kong, US and China Connect shares and wants one app for options, futures, funds, bonds and spot crypto. The SFC licence (CE AZT137, seven regulated activities), a Nasdaq-listed parent and Hong Kong's Investor Compensation Fund give a solid framework, and the platform layer — Futubull app, desktop program, free Level 1 Hong Kong and Level 2 US quotes, paper trading and an OpenAPI — is very complete. The price picture is mixed. Hong Kong share trades carry no commission under the commission-free offer, but every order costs an HKD 15 platform fee on the default plan, plus stamp duty and levies. US shares are not commission-free: USD 0.0049 per share in commission and USD 0.005 in platform fee, with minimums of USD 0.99 and USD 1.00 per order and a USD 0.003 settlement fee per share, so a 100-share order costs about USD 2.29. Moving out is expensive at HKD 500 per Hong Kong stock and USD 150 per US stock, and a dormant account pays HKD 10 a month. For readers outside Hong Kong the main limit is access: online opening expects a Hong Kong bank account and a first transfer of at least HKD 10,000, and Futu's document list covers Hong Kong residents only. Weigh, too, the group's regulatory history: in 2022 China's CSRC issued an announcement on Futu's cross-border operations in mainland China, and in 2023 Futu cited the CSRC's rectification requirements when it removed the Futubull app from mainland app stores.
Best for
- Hong Kong residents trading HK and US shares
- Active traders using Level 2 data
- One account for many markets
- Hong Kong IPO subscribers
Less suitable for
- Residents outside Hong Kong
- Low-cost US buy-and-hold investors
- Investors who move portfolios often
- Small Hong Kong dividend positions
Pros & cons
Pros
7- SFC-licensed for seven regulated activities (CE AZT137, types 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9) under a Nasdaq-listed parent, Futu Holdings (FUTU)
- No commission on Hong Kong shares under Futu's commission-free offer; on the default fixed plan each order costs an HKD 15 platform fee
- One universal account for Hong Kong, US, China Connect and Japanese shares, plus Singapore and Korean stocks, options, futures and leveraged FX; funds, bonds and spot crypto (in a separate crypto account) in the same app
- Free Level 1 quotes for Hong Kong shares and free Level 2 quotes for US shares, analyst ratings, an institutional tracker and a screener with 100+ indicators
- Fast, free HKD funding: eDDA and Bank-Securities Transfer usually credit within 5 minutes, FPS within 2 hours
- Hotline and live chat 24 hours on trading days, plus 13 physical service locations in Hong Kong
- Paper trading, fractional shares and regular savings plans from USD 10 (US) or HKD 1,000 (Hong Kong)
Cons
6- Aimed at Hong Kong residents: online opening needs a Hong Kong bank account and at least HKD 10,000 (or USD 1,500); residents elsewhere are referred to customer service
- US shares are not commission-free: USD 0.0049 per share commission plus USD 0.005 per share platform fee, with USD 0.99 and USD 1.00 minimums and a USD 0.003 settlement fee per share
- Expensive exits: HKD 500 per Hong Kong stock and USD 150 per US stock to transfer out, and HKD 500 to close an account within 180 days
- A dormant-account fee of HKD 10 a month after two years without activity, and a 0.2% collection fee on Hong Kong cash dividends (minimum HKD 30 where the dividend net of the registration fee exceeds HKD 60)
- Investor compensation is capped at HKD 500,000 per person for securities, and Futu's SIPC statement for US shares does not name the SIPC member that holds them
- In 2022 China's CSRC issued an announcement on Futu's cross-border operations in mainland China; citing the CSRC's rectification requirements, Futu removed the Futubull app from mainland app stores in 2023

Recorded regulatory actions
2022 · CSRC
On 30 December 2022 China's securities regulator (CSRC) posted an announcement on Futu's cross-border operations in mainland China, as Futu reported in a Form 6-K that day; Futu said it would keep serving existing clients there. Citing the CSRC's rectification requirements on cross-border securities business, Futu announced in a 6-K of 16 May 2023 that it would remove the Futubull app from mainland China app stores from 19 May 2023, with existing clients still able to trade. The matter concerned the mainland business; the SFC register lists no disciplinary action against the Hong Kong licensee.

Full review: Futubull
This review is based on official pricing schedules, legal documents and other available sources. It does not claim that we opened an account with this broker or tested it in practice.
Fees: Hong Kong, US and other markets
Futu's price list splits every trade into a commission and a platform fee. On Hong Kong shares, ETFs and warrants the pricing page advertises HKD 0 commission 'forever' (terms and conditions apply; as of 2 November 2026); the detailed schedule shows the standard commission of 0.03% (minimum HKD 3) as zero during the commission-free period. What remains is the platform fee: HKD 15 per order on the default fixed plan, or a tiered plan that starts at HKD 30 for the first five orders in a month and falls to HKD 1 from the 6,001st order. Futu itself recommends the fixed plan below 35 orders a month. On top come stamp duty of 0.1% (not on ETFs, warrants or CBBCs), the HKEX settlement fee of 0.0042%, the trading fee of 0.00565%, the SFC levy of 0.0027% and the FRC levy of 0.00015%. An HKD 50,000 purchase therefore costs HKD 15 to Futu plus HKD 50 stamp duty and a few dollars in levies.
US shares and ETFs are not commission-free: USD 0.0049 per share (minimum USD 0.99) in commission plus a USD 0.005 per share platform fee (minimum USD 1.00), a USD 0.003 per share settlement fee and the SEC fee on sales. A 100-share order costs about USD 2.29; Futu caps commission and platform fee at 0.5% of the trade value. Fractional orders below one share pay no commission and a platform fee of 0.99% of the trade value, at most USD 0.99.
Other markets on the pricing page:
- China Connect A-shares: 0.03% (minimum RMB 3) plus RMB 15 per order
- Japan: 0.08% (minimum JPY 80) plus JPY 180 per order
- Singapore: 0.08% plus a platform fee of SGD 2.50 per order
- Korea: 0.08% (minimum KRW 2,000) plus KRW 3,000 per order
- US options: USD 0.65 per contract (USD 0.15 at premiums of USD 0.10 or less), minimum USD 1.99 per order, plus USD 0.30 platform fee per contract
Non-trading costs matter here. Deposits and withdrawals are free from Futu's side, but transferring shares out costs HKD 500 per Hong Kong stock and USD 150 per US stock, a dormant account pays HKD 10 a month, and cash dividends on Hong Kong shares carry a 0.2% collection fee (minimum HKD 30 where the net dividend exceeds HKD 60) plus HKD 1.50 per lot on shares added since the previous registration date. Margin costs 6.8% a year on Hong Kong shares and 4.8% on US shares (Futu's standard rates as of 2 November 2026).
Safety, licence and investor compensation
The broker behind Futubull is Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited. The SFC's public register lists it under CE number AZT137 with seven regulated activities: dealing in securities (type 1, since 4 October 2012), dealing in futures contracts (type 2), leveraged foreign exchange trading (type 3), advising on securities and on futures contracts (types 4 and 5), automated trading services (type 7) and asset management (type 9, for professional investors only under a licence condition). Conditions added in 2026 allow virtual-asset dealing only for its securities (type 1) clients and only through an omnibus account with an SFC-licensed platform (or, for specified stablecoins, an HKMA-licensed issuer). Futu adds that the firm is an SEHK participant, an HKSCC direct clearing participant, an HKFE futures commission merchant and a member of SGX, the London Stock Exchange and Turquoise.
Parent Futu Holdings Limited was founded in Hong Kong in 2012 and has been listed on Nasdaq (FUTU) since 8 March 2019, so audited group accounts are public. Futu says client assets are held at independent banks.
Investor protection: Hong Kong's Investor Compensation Fund pays up to HKD 500,000 per person for securities and a separate HKD 500,000 for futures if a licensed intermediary defaults. It covers exchange-traded products in Hong Kong and, for defaults since 1 January 2020, Stock Connect northbound trades. Futu also states that SIPC covers up to USD 500,000 for assets in US stocks; the pages we read do not say which SIPC member holds Hong Kong clients' US shares (the group's US broker-dealer Futu Clearing Inc. is a SIPC member).
The regulatory record: on 30 December 2022 China's CSRC posted an announcement on Futu's cross-border operations in mainland China, as Futu reported to the SEC the same day; Futu said it would keep serving existing clients there. In a filing of 16 May 2023 Futu cited the CSRC's rectification requirements on cross-border securities business and announced that it would remove the Futubull app from mainland app stores from 19 May 2023. The SFC register lists no disciplinary action against the Hong Kong licensee (as of 2 November 2026). None of this makes any broker guaranteed safe, and compensation schemes do not cover market losses.
Platforms: Futubull app, desktop and OpenAPI
Futubull is the name of Futu's trading app and of the platform behind it. It runs on iOS and Android and as a desktop program for Mac and Windows with multi-screen support for charting. The same login carries market data, news, the community feed and trading for every market the account covers.
Order handling is built for active trading. Futu advertises trades 'in 0.0037 seconds' (its own figure), US shares can be traded 24 hours a day, five days a week including an overnight session, and the universal account offers conditional orders that trade options on the price of the underlying stock and stocks on the level of an index, plus an order preview showing every fee before you submit. Multi-leg options orders with reduced margins for several strategies are available.
For programmers, Futu OpenAPI consists of a local gateway (OpenD) and SDKs for Python, Java, C#, C++ and JavaScript, covering quotes and trading. Algo orders on Hong Kong shares cost an extra 0.03% of the trade value, while US algo orders follow the standard fees. Futubull AI, a chatbot launched in 2025 that received a built-in agent mode called 'Expert' in 2026, sits on top of the data.
Paper trading is free: Futu's Hong Kong market simulator starts with 1 million in virtual funds, so you can practise orders before risking money. The downside is density. The app shows a great deal of information at once, and beginners should expect a learning curve before the screens feel natural.
Markets and products
Futu's universal account trades Hong Kong, US, China Connect (A-shares) and Japanese securities in several currencies, and the price list adds Singapore and Korean shares. Around the shares sit:
- Options on US shares and indices and on Hong Kong stocks
- Futures on HKEX, CME, CBOT, Cboe, SGX and JPX contracts: index, interest-rate, metals, energy, grains, currency and crypto futures
- Leveraged foreign exchange on 36 currency pairs under the type 3 licence
- Hong Kong warrants and CBBCs, IPO subscriptions (HKD 0 ordinary subscription fee and HKD 0 interest on bank-financed subscriptions per Futu's pricing overview, as of 2 November 2026) and Futu's grey-market trading
- Funds from partner fund houses with no subscription or redemption fee
- Bonds, including US Treasuries from USD 1,000 with 0% commission and a 0.04% platform fee of USD 2 to USD 15
- Structured products and the Cash Plus money market funds
Futu has offered spot crypto in the same app since 2024. Retail clients can trade BTC and ETH in HKD or USD, and SOL, AVAX and LINK in USD, around the clock; professional investors get 16 further tokens. Orders run through the SFC-licensed platforms PantherTrade, which Futu's milestones describe as its own 'self-built' platform integrated in 2026, and HashKey Exchange. Fees are a 0.08% platform fee plus a 0.08% commission below USD 500,000 of monthly volume; Futu's pricing overview also names a minimum platform fee of USD 1.99 or HKD 15 per transaction, which the detailed schedule (effective 15 July 2026) does not show. Crypto ETFs and CME bitcoin and ether futures are also on the menu.
The limits: we found no CFDs or spread betting, the leveraged FX spread is not published (Futu describes it as 'ultra tight' and shows it only in the app), and bonds carry a custody fee of 0.08% a year on their market value. Margin trading is available on all six stock markets at standard rates of 4.05% (Japan) to 8.8% (A-shares, Singapore, Korea) a year, and intraday loans repaid by the close carry no interest.
Account opening and funding
Futu says it was the first licensed brokerage in Hong Kong to offer fully online account opening (2018). The online route runs in the Futubull app: register with a mobile number, upload an ID and proof of address, answer the employment, financial and experience questions, listen to an audio risk disclosure from a licensed representative and sign electronically. To finish, you transfer at least HKD 10,000 or USD 1,500 from your own Hong Kong bank account; Futu reviews the application within 1–2 working days. Alternatives are a witnessed appointment with Futu staff in Hong Kong, a visit to the Admiralty head office or opening by cheque. Futu's document list covers Hong Kong residents; residents of other countries or regions are told to contact customer service, which is why this profile lists Hong Kong as the only country.
Funding is quick and free from Futu's side:
- eDDA (HKD): usually within 5 minutes
- Bank-Securities Transfer (HKD, USD, CNH) with EleBank, China Merchants Bank (Hong Kong) or China Minsheng Bank (Hong Kong): usually within 5 minutes
- FPS (HKD, CNH): within 2 hours on trading days
- Online banking, ATM or counter (HKD, USD, CNH, JPY): within 2 hours intrabank, 1–3 trading days interbank
- Wire from a bank outside Hong Kong: an estimated 3–5 trading days
Futu accepts no cash and no e-wallet transfers, and the bank account must be in your own name. Withdrawals are free from Futu's side; for withdrawals to banks outside Hong Kong the remitting bank charges about HKD 105–500 per transfer, and JPY withdrawals can cost JPY 2,000–10,000 in bank charges. Currency exchange inside the account uses real-time rates from upstream banks with no extra Futu fee, but those rates may include a spread.
Research, data and education
Market data is one of Futubull's strengths. Hong Kong shares, options and futures come with free Level 1 real-time quotes, US shares with free Level 2 quotes showing 60 price levels, and China Connect shares with free real-time data; Futu says it was the first in Hong Kong to offer free Level 1 quotes for Hong Kong shares (2023). For US options, a deposit unlocks real-time OPRA quotes; the options depth quotes are free for the first month and after that only with an account balance of USD 3,000.
The analysis toolkit includes:
- Analyst ratings and target prices from 4,000+ analysts at 250 institutions
- An institutional tracker that follows funds' position changes
- A screener with more than 100 indicators, heat maps and featured lists for dividends and movers
- Visualised earnings data, a market monitor with alerts and AI-based trend projection
Futu counts more than 150 analytical tools and financial data on 37,000+ listed companies. A 24/7 newsfeed, an economic calendar and live broadcasts complete the information side.
Education is broad: Futu cites more than 2,000 courses, a learning library and investor lectures, and it has run an annual investment expo in Hong Kong since 2024. The community feed (Futu counts 9 million investing ideas from users) is lively; treat it as sentiment, not research. At its 2026 investment expo Futu presented AI agent features for no-code strategy creation and automated live trading; Futu itself tells users to use AI functions cautiously and notes that its content does not constitute investment advice.
Customer support and branches
On paper, support is broad for Hong Kong clients. Futu's hotline (+852 2523 3588) and live chat are staffed 24 hours on trading days and from 09:30 to 21:30 on weekends and public holidays; callers from other regions use 400-870-1818.
Unusually for an online broker, Futu also runs physical stores. After four openings in 2026 it counts 13 physical service locations in Hong Kong, including the Admiralty head office and a flagship store in Causeway Bay, with further stores in Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Tuen Mun, Wan Chai, Kwai Chung, Kowloon Tong and Central. The stores open seven days a week; the head office handles account opening and related enquiries from Monday to Friday.
The website and app are available in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese; the contact page does not say in which languages the hotline answers. The help centre is detailed, with full fee schedules for each market, a complaints page and step-by-step guides for every deposit route.
We did not collect app-store or Trustpilot ratings for this profile. Our support rating of 4.0 rests on the published hours, channels and branch network. It is the result of desk research, not an assessment of how quickly or well Futu actually answers.
Frequently asked questions
Futu's account-opening guide addresses clients in Hong Kong and overseas, but online opening needs a transfer of at least HKD 10,000 or USD 1,500 from a Hong Kong bank account in your name, and the document list names only Hong Kong residents; residents of other countries or regions are asked to contact customer service. Brokaro therefore lists Hong Kong as the only country. According to Futu's company page, the sister brand moomoo serves the United States, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand.
Under Futu's commission-free offer the commission is HKD 0 (the standard rate is 0.03%, minimum HKD 3). Futu charges a platform fee of HKD 15 per order on the default fixed plan; frequent traders can switch to a tiered plan that runs from HKD 30 down to HKD 1 per order depending on the monthly order count. Stamp duty of 0.1% and exchange and regulator levies come on top. On an HKD 50,000 purchase that is HKD 15 to Futu plus HKD 50 stamp duty and a few dollars in levies.
Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited is licensed by the SFC (CE AZT137). If a licensed intermediary defaults, Hong Kong's Investor Compensation Fund pays up to HKD 500,000 per person for securities and a separate HKD 500,000 for futures, for exchange-traded products in Hong Kong and, for defaults since 1 January 2020, Stock Connect northbound trades. Futu states that SIPC covers up to USD 500,000 for assets in US stocks and that client assets are held at independent banks. These schemes do not cover investment losses, and no broker is guaranteed safe.
Both belong to Futu Holdings (Nasdaq: FUTU). Futubull is the platform for Hong Kong clients, run by Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited; moomoo serves other countries through separately licensed entities, such as Moomoo Financial Inc. in the United States. The price lists differ: Futu HK charges a commission and a platform fee on US shares that moomoo's US residents do not pay on regular retail orders, while Hong Kong shares are at the centre of Futubull's offer.
Yes, as a client in Hong Kong after a risk assessment. Retail clients can trade BTC and ETH in HKD or USD, and SOL, AVAX and LINK in USD, around the clock, from HKD 80 or USD 10; professional investors get 16 further tokens. Futu executes through the SFC-licensed platforms PantherTrade (CE BUY578) and HashKey Exchange (CE BPL992). Some coins, including BTC and ETH, can be deposited from or withdrawn to an external wallet; withdrawals carry a network fee.
Not on active accounts. Since December 2025 Futu has charged a dormant-account management fee of HKD 10 a month once an account has had no trades, deposits, withdrawals, stock transfers or information updates for two years. One deduction is made per Futubull ID, and Futu does not sell securities to collect it. Closing an account within 180 days of opening costs HKD 500.
