Our verdict

Editorial verdict4.1

Admirals is the best answer here for anyone who wants one account to cover both leveraged short-term trading and a real, settled equity portfolio. Invest.MT5 gives you actual share ownership from USD 0.02 per share with a USD 1.00 minimum and no custody fee, sitting alongside Zero.MT5 raw spreads and MetaTrader Supreme Edition — a free plugin that adds a mini terminal, correlation matrix and Trading Central research to MT4 and MT5. Add Dow Jones news, a serious education library and a dormancy regime that only kicks in after two years, and it is a well-rounded, honestly priced package.

It is not the right choice if you need round-the-clock support, since cover is office hours on weekdays with no weekend desk. Nor if you want a modern, self-designed trading experience: this is fundamentally a MetaTrader house, and the proprietary web platform is a lighter companion rather than a replacement. European clients should also register that the Estonian licence was withdrawn in April 2026 at the group's own request and their counterparty is now the Cyprus entity, where investor compensation is capped at EUR 20,000 instead of the UK's GBP 85,000.

Best for

  • Real share investing
  • MetaTrader users
  • Low-commission FX
  • Long-term account holders
  • Research-led traders

Less suitable for

  • Weekend traders
  • 24/7 support needs
  • Options traders
  • Anyone who dislikes MetaTrader

Pros & cons

Pros

7
  • Real share and ETF ownership through Invest.MT5 — roughly 4,800 listed companies and 200-plus ETFs from USD 0.02 per share with a USD 1.00 minimum, with no custody or platform fee.
  • Zero.MT5 prices FX from 0.0 pips plus commission starting at USD 3.00 per lot per side (USD 6.00 round turn), falling towards USD 1.80 per side at high volume.
  • Inactivity is only EUR 10 a month and only after 24 months without activity, and only while the balance is positive — among the most forgiving dormancy terms in CFD broking.
  • Four meaningful licences: FCA 595450 (FSCS to GBP 85,000), CySEC 201/13, ASIC 410681 and FSCA FSP 51311, plus regional entities in Jordan (JSC 1/3/01970/21), Kenya (CMA 178) and the Seychelles (FSA SD073).
  • MetaTrader Supreme Edition is free and genuinely useful — mini terminal, correlation matrix, sentiment data and Trading Central analysis grafted onto standard MT4 and MT5.
  • Research is above its weight: Dow Jones news, Trading Central technical analysis and Acuity sentiment indicators, plus a Zero to Hero course and a deep webinar programme.
  • Nine base currencies including EUR, GBP, CHF, PLN, HUF and CZK, with one free withdrawal per payment method every calendar month.

Cons

6
  • Support is weekday office hours only, with no weekend desk — a genuine gap for anyone holding crypto CFDs over a Saturday.
  • The Estonian investment firm licence was withdrawn in April 2026 during a restructuring, moving EEA clients to the Cyprus entity where compensation is capped at EUR 20,000 rather than the UK's GBP 85,000.
  • A 0.3% currency conversion charge applies whenever the instrument currency differs from your account currency, which quietly adds up on a US share portfolio funded in euros.
  • Only the first withdrawal per payment method each calendar month is free; the charge on subsequent withdrawals varies by method and is not published as a single figure.
  • The experience is MetaTrader-shaped. If you find MT5 dated, the proprietary Admirals Platform is a lighter companion rather than a genuine alternative.
  • No options, no bonds, no mutual funds and no exchange-listed futures — the catalogue is broad within CFDs and equities but stops there.

Recorded regulatory actions

  • 2022 · Finantsinspektsioon€20,000

Estonia's Finantsinspektsioon fined Admiral Markets AS EUR 20,000, published on 7 March 2022, for failing to report concluded, modified and terminated derivative contracts to the trade repository within one working day as EMIR requires. The penalty was about 62.5 percent of the EUR 32,000 maximum for a legal person. The firm attributed the failures to having outsourced reporting to a third party and did not contest the decision.

  • 2026 · Finantsinspektsioon (Estonia)

On 27 April 2026 the Estonian financial supervisor withdrew the investment firm licence of Admiral Markets AS, granted in 2009. The withdrawal was made at the company's own request as part of a group restructuring rather than as an enforcement sanction; European clients were migrated to Admirals Europe Ltd in Cyprus, which changed the counterparty and the applicable compensation scheme for anyone previously served from Estonia.

Regulation and investor compensation reduce risk, they do not remove it. No broker is guaranteed safe.

Full review: Admirals (Admiral Markets)

This review is based on official pricing schedules, legal documents and other available sources. It does not claim that we opened an account with this broker or tested it in practice.

Fees and what they cost in practice

Admirals prices differently by account, and picking the right one is most of the fee decision.

Invest.MT5 (real shares and ETFs): from USD 0.02 per share with a USD 1.00 minimum on US listings. A 200-share order in a US name costs USD 4.00; a 40-share order costs the USD 1.00 minimum. There is no custody fee and no platform fee, which is what makes this account competitive against dedicated share brokers.

Trade.MT5 (spread-only CFDs): EUR/USD averages around 0.9 pips with no commission — roughly USD 9 on a one-lot round turn. The S&P 500 index CFD has quoted around 0.6 points.

Zero.MT5 (raw spreads plus commission): EUR/USD spreads near 0.1 pips plus USD 3.00 per lot per side at the base tier (USD 6.00 round turn), tiering down towards USD 1.80 per side for high-volume clients. All-in that lands near USD 7 per lot round turn — competitive with the raw-spread mainstream.

The recurring costs are where Admirals looks best. No custody fee. No deposit fee. Inactivity only EUR 10 a month, and only after two full years without activity and only on a positive balance. Compare that with brokers charging USD 50 a quarter after three months and the difference over a lightly traded year is substantial.

Two charges to watch: a 0.3% currency conversion whenever the instrument currency differs from your account currency, and the fact that only the first withdrawal per method per calendar month is free.

Safety and regulation

Admirals has traded since 2001 and runs a multi-entity structure. Two of those entities are top-tier.

  • Admiral Markets UK Ltd — FCA firm reference 595450, with client money under CASS rules and FSCS cover to GBP 85,000 if the firm fails.
  • Admirals Europe Ltd (previously Admiral Markets Cyprus Ltd) — CySEC licence 201/13. Cover comes from the Cypriot Investor Compensation Fund, capped at EUR 20,000.
  • Admiral Markets Pty Ltd — ASIC AFSL 410681.
  • Admirals SA (Pty) Ltd — FSCA FSP 51311.
  • Admiral Markets AS Jordan Ltd — Jordan Securities Commission licence 1/3/01970/21.
  • Admirals KE Limited — Capital Markets Authority Kenya licence 178.
  • Admirals SC Ltd — Seychelles FSA licence SD073. The group states that admiralmarkets.com itself is operated by this entity, so read the company named in your client agreement before you fund an account.

The material recent development is the Estonian one. On 27 April 2026 Finantsinspektsioon withdrew the investment firm licence of Admiral Markets AS, the group's original 2009 Estonian licence. This was done at the company's own request as part of a restructuring, not as an enforcement action, and the regulator confirmed that Estonian clients would continue to be served cross-border by Admirals Europe Ltd in Cyprus. Still, it is a change worth understanding: if you were an EEA client of the Estonian entity, your counterparty and your compensation scheme both moved.

Client funds are segregated, retail accounts carry negative balance protection, and the group files audited accounts. No broker is guaranteed safe. What is verifiable here is a top-tier UK licence, two decades of trading and a public licence trail across four regulators.

Trading platforms

Admirals is a MetaTrader house, and it does MetaTrader better than most.

MetaTrader 5 is the centre of gravity. It runs the CFD accounts and — importantly — it is the only platform that carries Invest.MT5, the real-share account. Depth of market, 21 timeframes, a full order-type set and a strategy tester capable of proper optimisation are all present.

MetaTrader 4 remains available on CFD accounts for the still-enormous library of MQL4 expert advisors.

MetaTrader Supreme Edition is the differentiator and it is free. It bolts onto MT4 and MT5 and adds a mini terminal with one-click risk-sized orders, a correlation matrix, a global opinion and sentiment widget, trading simulation on historical data and integrated Trading Central technical analysis. It turns a stock MetaTrader install into something appreciably more capable, and it is the single strongest argument for choosing Admirals over another MetaTrader broker at similar pricing.

The Admirals Platform is the proprietary browser option — cleaner, friendlier and considerably less intimidating than MT5, but with a narrower set of order tools. Treat it as the companion, not the destination.

The mobile app handles trading, funding and account management competently. Charting depth trails the MetaTrader mobile apps, so serious analysis still belongs on desktop.

Markets and products

The catalogue is unusually broad for a MetaTrader broker, and the important distinction is between the accounts.

Invest.MT5 — real ownership:

  • Roughly 4,800 listed shares across major global exchanges.
  • More than 200 ETFs.
  • Unleveraged, settled, with dividends paid to you as a holder.

Trade.MT5 and Zero.MT5 — CFDs:

  • Around 80 FX pairs.
  • Thousands of share CFDs and several hundred ETF CFDs.
  • 19 stock index CFDs.
  • 15 commodity CFDs plus CFDs on commodity futures.
  • 28 crypto CFDs.

That combination is rare. Most CFD brokers offer only derivatives; most share brokers offer no leveraged FX. Being able to hold a settled ETF portfolio and hedge it with an index CFD inside one login is a genuine structural advantage, and Admirals does not charge custody for the privilege.

Bets.MT5 adds spread betting for UK clients. What is missing: no options, no bonds, no mutual funds, no warrants and no exchange-listed futures — futures exposure is CFD-based and rolls rather than settling into delivery.

Account opening and funding

Onboarding is fully online and typically approved within one business day. You complete an application, pass an appropriateness questionnaire — mandatory under MiFID for leveraged products — and upload proof of identity and address.

Minimum deposits are tiered by account. The CFD accounts (Trade.MT5, Zero.MT5) work from around EUR/USD 100, while Invest.MT5 starts from EUR 1, which effectively removes the barrier for anyone who wants to test real share settlement before committing.

Nine base currencies are supported — EUR, USD, GBP, AUD, CHF, PLN, HUF, CZK and AED — which is unusually good coverage for Central and Eastern Europe. Match the account currency to your bank and to the market you trade most, because the 0.3% conversion charge applies every time the instrument currency differs from the account currency. A euro account trading US shares pays that on every position.

Funding runs through SEPA and international bank transfer, Visa and Mastercard, and the main e-wallets including PayPal, Skrill and Neteller. There is no deposit fee. Cards and e-wallets clear instantly to one business day; bank transfers take one to three.

On the way out, the first withdrawal per payment method each calendar month is free; anything beyond that in the same month is charged, at a rate that varies by method. Withdrawals themselves settle in one to three business days.

Research and education

This is a genuine strength and it is not built from recycled marketing copy.

Research is sourced from names that carry weight. Dow Jones supplies the news feed, Trading Central provides technical analysis, pattern recognition and price targets, and Acuity contributes sentiment indicators — all surfaced inside MetaTrader through Supreme Edition rather than buried on a separate website. Premium Analytics adds a market heatmap, news filtering and a technical insight layer. The mini terminal in Supreme Edition also does something small and genuinely valuable: it sizes positions by risk percentage rather than making you calculate lot sizes by hand.

Education is deep and structured. The Zero to Hero course walks a complete beginner through market mechanics into strategy construction, backed by a steady webinar programme, an extensive article library and platform tutorials that assume you have never opened MT5. Independent reviewers consistently rate Admirals' education among the better offerings in the sector.

The demo account has no artificial expiry pressure, so a strategy can be forward-tested across a real market cycle rather than a three-week window — a small thing that separates brokers that want you to learn from brokers that want you to fund quickly.

Customer support

Support is competent and multilingual, and it is Admirals' weakest structural dimension for one clear reason: it does not run around the clock.

Cover is weekday office hours in each regional market, delivered by phone, email and live chat. There is no weekend desk. For an FX trader that is largely academic, since spot markets are closed. For anyone holding a crypto CFD — a market that keeps moving through Saturday and Sunday — it means a margin problem on a weekend has to wait until Monday. Plan position sizing accordingly.

Language coverage is a real strength and reflects the group's Baltic and Central European roots: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian and Russian, with local phone numbers across most of those markets. For DACH clients the German desk is properly staffed rather than outsourced.

Answer quality is generally good on funding, account and platform questions. Where it gets slower is anything entity-specific — which compensation scheme applies to you, which leverage cap you are under, why an instrument is unavailable in your country. Since the April 2026 restructuring moved EEA clients to the Cyprus entity, that is worth confirming explicitly rather than assuming. Complaints escalate through the process of your regulating entity: the Financial Ombudsman Service for FCA clients, the Cypriot Financial Ombudsman for CySEC clients.

Frequently asked questions

Both, in separate accounts. Invest.MT5 settles real shares and ETFs — roughly 4,800 listed companies and more than 200 ETFs — from USD 0.02 per share with a USD 1.00 minimum per order, unleveraged, with dividends paid to you as a holder and no custody fee. Trade.MT5 and Zero.MT5 are CFD accounts covering FX, indices, commodities, crypto and share CFDs. Very few MetaTrader brokers offer both under one login.
