Best brokers in Norway

Norwegian investors can switch tax-free inside an aksjesparekonto between listed EEA shares and EEA-domiciled equity funds; tax falls due only on withdrawals above the amount paid in. Not every international broker offers this account type; which brokers we compare offer it is listed on this page with sources.

The ranking

Risk warning: CFDs and leveraged products are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly. Investments can fall in value. Past performance is not an indicator of future results.

The part that decides

Tax notes

Gains and dividends on shares and equity funds are multiplied by a factor of 1.72 and then taxed at 22% — an effective 37.84% for 2026. Other capital income, such as interest, is taxed at 22%. The shielding deduction (skjermingsfradrag) is applied first. An aksjesparekonto (ASK) allows tax-free reallocation within the account: it may hold listed shares of companies domiciled in the EEA and units of EEA-domiciled equity funds holding more than 80% shares at the start of the year; several companies listed on Oslo Børs are not domiciled in the EEA. Dividends are not taxed while they stay inside, and cash in the account earns no interest. Tax falls due only on withdrawals exceeding the amount you paid in, after the shielding deduction and at the same effective 37.84%; losses count only when the account is closed. Shares you already hold cannot be transferred in: they are sold and bought again inside the account, which is a taxable realisation. Holdings at foreign banks and brokers, foreign ETFs included, are not pre-filled in the tax return and must be entered yourself.

Brokers that withhold tax locally

Our dataset records these providers as tax withholding agents for this country. Whether that removes the need to declare the income yourself is something we have not checked for this country. The country's tax law decides.

Orientation based on the general legal position — not tax advice. Your personal situation and the legislation in force at the time govern.

For personal taxpayers; any number of accounts and no contribution limit per Skatteetaten. Eligible: listed shares of companies domiciled in the EEA and units of EEA-domiciled equity funds holding more than 80% shares at the start of the year; several Oslo Børs companies are not domiciled in the EEA. Gains stay untaxed inside, and since 2019 dividends are taxed only on withdrawal. Withdrawals up to the amount paid in are tax-free; the excess is taxed after the shielding deduction at an effective 37.84% (2025 and 2026). Losses count only when the account is closed. Existing shares cannot be transferred in: they are sold and bought again inside the account, which is a realisation. Cash in the account earns no interest. Providers report to the tax administration; the figures are pre-filled.
