  • Bitpanda · Interest can be declined: A return on cash comes only through Cash Plus, which the client activates (appropriateness test, a derivative contract on a BlackRock money market fund, paid monthly) and can switch off with a toggle in the fiat wallet. Gross yields 10/2026: EUR 2.50%, USD 3.96%, GBP 3.88%. No page says whether the plain fiat balance earns anything.
  • BUX · Interest on cash: Basic 0%; Plus 1.75% up to EUR 100,000 and 0% above; Prime 2.00% up to EUR 100,000 and 1.65% above. The home page states other rates elsewhere. BUX names no opt-out for Plus or Prime.
  • BUX · Securities lending optional: Stock lending only with the client's explicit consent.
  • Bybit · Account without margin: The Islamic Subaccount has neither derivatives nor margin.
  • CapTrader · Interest on cash: Interest on positive settled cash; as of 25 Oct 2026: EUR 0% up to 10,000 and 0.978% above, USD 0% up to 10,000 and 2.38% above; proportionally less for accounts under USD 100,000. The page describes no opt-out.
  • CapTrader · Account without margin: Clients can open a cash account and switch between cash and margin accounts.
  • Charles Schwab · Interest on cash: Uninvested cash is swept into a Cash Feature that may pay interest (disclosure dated October 2026, form REG90540-16). Schwab says the rate can be zero. The disclosure describes no way to decline interest; section 5 is titled 'Your Limited Ability to Change Your Cash Feature Election'. For clients outside the US, which Cash Features are available depends on the jurisdiction.
  • Cornèrtrader · Interest on cash: Currently no interest on cash balances (help article of 13 Jul 2026).
  • Cornèrtrader · Securities lending optional: Securities lending only with a signed lending agreement, offered to Swiss-resident clients; it can be switched off only as a whole, single securities cannot be excluded. The client receives 50% of net revenue.
  • DEGIRO · Account without margin: Margin profiles exist only on legacy accounts; new clients cannot switch to a margin profile. Whether Basic-profile securities are lent was not checked.
  • Eightcap · Account without margin: The client agreement covers CFDs and other margin trading products (clause 1.1).
  • eToro · Interest on cash: Interest on USD cash only once switched on; for 'all other regions' the tiers start at USD 10,000 (0.75%).
  • eToro · Interest can be declined: Off by default: clients who do not switch it on receive no interest.
  • Freetrade · Interest on cash: Every plan shows a rate: Basic 1% AER on up to GBP 1,000, Standard 2.5% on up to GBP 2,000, Plus 3.5% on up to GBP 3,000 (the page redirects to /compare-plans).
  • Freetrade · Interest can be declined: Opt out by messaging support in the app; there is no toggle.
  • Freetrade · Securities lending optional: Lending is opt-in and can be ended at any time; only shares in a GIA or SIPP are lent, never in an ISA.
  • Hargreaves Lansdown · Interest on cash: Uninvested cash in the Fund and Share Account earns interest.
  • Interactive Brokers · Interest on cash: The first USD 10,000 per currency earns no interest; above that IBKR pays interest (on 25 Oct 2026: 3.38% on USD balances above USD 10,000 for accounts above USD 100,000, less below). The page describes no way to decline interest; small balances earning nothing is not an opt-out.
  • Interactive Brokers · Account without margin: IBKR names both cash accounts and margin accounts (eligibility text of its Stock Yield Enhancement Program).
  • Interactive Brokers · Securities lending optional: Applies to the Stock Yield Enhancement Program: shares are lent only after the client enrols, and participation can be ended at any time. These pages say nothing about securities bought on margin.
  • interactive investor · Interest on cash: Interest on cash held in GBP, EUR or USD in the investment account; we found no opt-out.
  • Lightyear · Interest on cash: Interest on uninvested cash only in some countries; the table lists only the UK (GBP 1.00% APY, USD 0.00%) and Hungary (HUF 1.75%, GBP and USD 0.00%).
  • Lightyear · Interest can be declined: UK clients can opt out in the app of having their cash placed in a qualifying money market fund, and so of the interest.
  • LYNX · Account without margin: Clients opening a LYNX account at IB Ireland choose between a cash account (Bar-Depot) and a margin account; clients aged 18 to 21 get the cash account only. A switch from margin to cash is possible at any time.
  • OANDA · Interest on cash: Per the Terms of Business (effective 22 Feb 2023) the BVI company pays no interest on client money, and the client waives it. The EU site of OANDA TMS Brokers S.A. advertises interest on free funds in its menu.
  • Plus500 · Interest on cash: No interest on client money, and the client waives it; Plus500 keeps any interest accrued. Plus500 Invest was not checked.
  • Revolut Invest · Interest on cash: No interest on client money in settlement or in the pooled client money account; Revolut Securities keeps the interest. By opening the account the client consents to client money being placed in a qualifying money market fund.
  • Revolut Invest · Securities lending optional: Stock lending only with the client's permission; the app offers 'Disable stock lending'. Not confirmed for the EEA.
  • Robinhood · Securities lending optional: Stock lending must be switched on actively; the same article explains how to switch it off.
  • tastytrade · Account without margin: International clients can open individual cash accounts too; a cash account trades only with cash, and the full purchase price is paid.
  • Tickmill · Interest on cash: Up to 1.75% p.a. on USD and GBP and up to 0.25% on EUR for wallet balances, from a total of USD 100 and with trading in the last 30 days.
  • Tickmill · Interest can be declined: Interest is an account setting, on by default except for swap-free (Islamic) accounts, which are excluded. We found no explicit switch-off instruction for regular accounts.
  • Trade Republic · Interest on cash: Trade Republic advertises 2.5% p.a. on cash (en-de page, October 2026). The help article on switching interest off no longer exists (error 404).
  • TradeStation · Account without margin: There are cash accounts and accounts without a signed margin agreement.
  • TradeStation · Securities lending optional: Fully Paid Lending requires its own lending agreement (MSLA); qualified accounts opened on or after 15 Feb 2019 are enrolled automatically. Clients opt out through Client Services.
  • Trading 212 · Interest on cash: Interest on uninvested cash in Stocks & Shares ISA, Cash ISA, Invest, SIPP and CFD accounts.
  • Trading 212 · Interest can be declined: Interest is switched on with 'Enable' and can be switched off at any time with 'Don't pay me interest'. In the UK SIPP it is on by default and can be switched off.
  • Trading 212 · Securities lending optional: Share lending can be switched off in the 'Interest on shares' dashboard. Only Invest accounts take part, not accounts with Trading 212 EU GmbH; Trading 212 passes on 50% of the lending interest.
  • Wealthsimple Trade · Account without margin: Margin is a separate account the client applies for.
  • Wealthsimple Trade · Securities lending optional: Stock lending is switched on and off per account; a client who has enrolled gets it switched on in every new account and can opt out at any time. Turning it off in a Trade account does not turn it off in managed accounts. The managed portfolio Wealthsimple describes as screened by Sharia criteria is excluded from lending (help article of 19 Oct 2026).
  • Webull · Interest on cash: Interest only for clients enrolled in Cash Management (bank sweep).
  • Webull · Interest can be declined: No interest without enrolment; clients can unenrol ('Terminate') in the app.
  • Webull · Account without margin: Cash accounts and margin accounts are separate account types.

Swap-free accounts for CFDs and forex

Swap-free accounts concern leveraged trading in CFDs and forex. They drop the overnight interest but often charge another fee. The risks of leveraged trading remain: many retail accounts lose money.

Our ranking of brokers with swap-free accounts compares them on cost, safety and platform; it too is about leveraged trading. Go to the ranking

  • ActivTrades: Per the help centre (updated 8 Jun 2026): five calendar days without holding or administration fees, after that administration fees may be charged; crypto and stock positions still carry swaps, and cash indices cannot be traded. Applicants are generally expected to be of the Muslim faith; ActivTrades may request documentation and decides at its discretion. The marketing page does not mention these limits. Contact middleeastdesk@activtrades.com first.
  • AvaTrade: For Muslim clients, arranged through the account manager or customer services after verification and funding; usually 1-2 business days. Positions open for more than five days are charged swaps.
  • AvaTrade · AVA Trade Middle East Ltd (ADGM): Per AvaTrade's UAE site (avatrade.ae), no overnight fees for up to five days; fees may apply after that. Not for exotic currency pairs or crypto CFDs. AvaTrade names no Sharia board.
  • Axi · AxiTrader LLC (St Vincent and the Grenadines): For clients who cannot earn or pay interest for religious reasons; the account type is chosen in the application. Only FX major and minor and precious-metal symbols with the .swf suffix are swap-free; an administration fee in USD per lot applies when positions stay open five days or more (table in the legal documentation).
  • Axi · AxiCorp Financial Services Pty Ltd (DIFC Branch): Also on the DIFC branch's site (maximum leverage 30:1). Per the page, the branch (DFSA category 4) is not authorised to hold client assets or client money.
  • BlackBull Markets · BlackBull Markets: At BlackBull's discretion and only for listed countries. From the 5th rollover (weekends count) and every five days after, an administration fee per position in USD per lot by symbol (for example EURUSD 75, GBPUSD 20, USDJPY 150, XAUUSD 150, US500 10), for positions opened on or after 13 Oct 2025. BlackBull may remove the status, after which swaps apply.
  • BlackBull Markets · BlackBull Markets: Bahrain is not on the country list for swap-free accounts.
  • Capital.com: Per the help article (updated 27 Aug 2026) for clients who cannot use a regular account for religious reasons; the list also names Lebanon, Tunisia and Algeria. To apply: close all open trades, then email support@capital.com. The article does not say what replaces the swap or which limits apply.
  • Dukascopy Bank · Dukascopy Bank SA: No swap and no interest on open positions; instead an extra commission of USD 5 per USD 1m of currency volume and USD 7.5 per USD 1m of precious-metals and CFD volume. Dukascopy tracks the gap to the forgone swap as a 'Deficit'; if equity does not cover it, positions are closed, and the Deficit is debited on termination, on full withdrawal, under the maintenance-fee policy or at any time. Self-trading clients switch the status on themselves. Dukascopy Europe's terms were not checked.
  • Eightcap · Eightcap International Ltd (Seychelles FSA SD100): An instrument-dependent administration fee replaces the swap; Eightcap sets amount and frequency (client agreement, clause 10.4) and may refuse a request. Support provides eligibility and the fee schedule on request.
  • eToro · eToro: Only for customers from these countries and Algeria; minimum deposit USD 1,000. After seven days daily administrative fees apply (example: FX tier 1 USD 10 per 100,000 units per day); no fee on real, unleveraged stocks, ETFs and crypto. Spot commodity positions still get the daily price adjustment. eToro may revoke the status.
  • Exness · Exness: Clients registered from the Islamic countries Exness lists get the status automatically, on all account types and instruments (updated 17 Sep 2026). Exness may charge an administration fee per lot on overnight orders when trading falls outside its intended scope (1 to 500 USD per lot, XAUUSD 250). Exness states it makes no representation that its swap-free accounts meet religious requirements.
  • FxPro · FxPro (fxpro.ae): Swap-free trading without overnight commission; a commission may be charged when positions on certain instruments stay open for a set number of days. Apply by email to the Back Office. Amounts and day thresholds are not on the page; which licence applies depends on the country of residence.
  • IC Markets · Raw Trading Ltd (Seychelles FSA SD018): For Raw Spread and Standard accounts (MT4, MT5, cTrader), for clients whose beliefs prevent them from earning or paying interest. A flat holding fee replaces the swap; new positions get up to 5 grace days, and a triple-swap night counts as 3. XNGUSD, XTIUSD and XBRUSD pay from day 1, USDJPY and GBPJPY from day 3. IC may ask for extra documents. The EU and ASIC companies were not checked.
  • IG · IG Limited (DFSA, Dubai): IG's account-types table lists 'Swap-free account' only under Dubai. We found no IG page with the terms: what replaces the swap and which limits apply.
  • Markets.com · Markets South Africa (Pty) Ltd (FSCA): Promotional page for a swap-free account 'for traders of the Islamic faith' without interest charges or rollover fees; apply through support or the account manager with a form, then review. • OANDA · OANDA Global Markets Ltd (BVI FSC, SIBA/L/20/1130): On Swap Free accounts no swap or interest is paid or earned; the other terms, commissions and spreads included, still apply. OANDA may change the fees on its website and revoke the status at its discretion. The terms are dated 15 Feb 2021, the Terms of Business 22 Feb 2023; whether these are current is not confirmed. We found no swap-free terms for the EU, UK, US or AU companies.
  • Pepperstone · Pepperstone Markets Kenya Limited: Per the Kenyan company's page (Kenya CMA licence 128): from five days' holding, USD 100 per standard lot on FX and precious metals (effective 19 June 2023). The country list includes Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman and Qatar, but not the UAE or Saudi Arabia. The /en/ and /en-ae/swap-free-account/ pages redirect to account pages without a swap-free account.
  • Plus500 · Plus500Gulf Securities L.L.C.: On request and at Plus500's discretion (user agreement V3/2026): no overnight funding, instead, after a grace period of seven days that Plus500 may change, a daily administrative fee on the position value in USD, shown per instrument under 'details' in the platform. Plus500 may revoke the status, for example for abuse, and recover the unaccrued funding. The agreements do not use the words Sharia or Islamic; the CySEC agreement has no swap-free clause.
  • Plus500 · Plus500SEY Ltd (FSA Seychelles SD039): The same clause as at Plus500Gulf.
  • Skilling: 'For religious purposes'; fees may apply when positions on certain instruments stay open a set number of days. Apply via support (email, chat, phone); article of 4 Dec 2025. • ThinkMarkets: Requested in ThinkPortal, approval is not automatic; eligibility depends on country and company and is not published. The first four calendar days carry no fee; from the fifth an instrument-specific administration fee applies, and some products are not swap-free. For abuse, ThinkMarkets can remove the status and charge the avoided swaps.
  • Tickmill · Tickmill UK Ltd (tickmill.com/uk): Any Classic or Raw account can be converted; swaps are removed, and a fixed handling fee per lot may apply on selected instruments after a grace period that varies by instrument (example EURCZK from the 4th night, the listed Classic instruments from day 41). Long crypto positions carry a 10% yearly swap after five days. The fee may change at Tickmill's discretion; the Seychelles company's terms were not checked.
  • Vantage Markets · VIG Group (FSC Mauritius): Instead of swaps a variable administration fee made up of a liquidity-provider fee and an internal processing fee; minimum deposit 50 units of the account currency (400 HKD, 5000 JPY). Vantage expressly does not represent its swap-free account as meeting Sharia requirements.
  • XTB · XTB International / XTB Financial Consultations / XTB MENA: Only for clients from certain countries (help article of 3 Feb 2026); XTB does not publish the list. Swap-free applies only for specific periods and not to all products; crypto CFDs are not available on Islamic accounts (fee table of 29 Apr 2026). We found no explicit administration fee replacing the swap; the monthly fee in the table is an inactivity fee, as on the Standard account.
  • XTB · XTB: No swap-free accounts for UK or EU residents.
  • Trading 212 · Trading 212: Trading 212 does not offer Islamic (swap-free) accounts; its account types are Invest, CFD, Stocks ISA and Cash ISA.

The 30% limits some tools attribute to AAOIFI are their own account; we did not obtain the standard itself.

  • AAOIFI Shari'ah Standard No. 21 (Financial Securities: Shares and Bonds): AAOIFI announced that all its standards are free to access; its page, however, leads to an access form with sign-up, which we did not complete. The title is confirmed by a presentation of an AAOIFI official dated 8 October 2020. We therefore give no threshold from the standard itself; the 30% limits some tools attribute to AAOIFI are their own account.
  • MSCI Islamic Index Series Methodology: The 5% is cumulative, interest income included. The Islamic M-Series divides by the average market capitalisation of the last 36 months and allows 49% for receivables plus cash (46% for new inclusions). In the GCC except Saudi Arabia and in Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkey, MSCI leaves debt and instruments it classes as consistent with Sharia out of the ratios; hotel revenue in Saudi Arabia is exempt. Whether a version newer than October 2024 exists was not checked.
  • FTSE Yasaar Global Equity Shariah Index Series, Ground Rules v4.6: Buffer rule: if the debt or cash ratio stays outside the band around 33.333% (below 31.667% or 35% and above) for two consecutive quarters, the status changes. The Yasaar Shariah Supervisory Board's opinion of 2 February 2024 states the same ratios.
  • S&P Shariah Indices: Per the prospectus Ratings Intelligence Partners works with a Sharia supervisory board of five scholars. S&P DJI's own methodology document could not be read (error 403). The figures come from the description in the SP Funds prospectus; the total-assets denominator is not confirmed against S&P DJI's own text, and Wahed describes the Dow Jones indices, also screened by Ratings Intelligence Partners, against market capitalisation.
  • Dow Jones Islamic Market Indices: Described for the Titans 100 index. Per Wahed, Ratings Intelligence Partners advises the index provider and issues the Shariah certification, described as a written explanation from the Shariah Supervisory Board the index provider appoints. The prospectus also says 'of total assets' in one place. Buffer rule per Wahed: a company already admitted stays admitted while a ratio is at most two percentage points above the limit; after three consecutive breaching reviews, or at once above two points, it drops out. S&P DJI's own document could not be read (error 403).

Purification and zakat

Providers see the handling of non-permissible income differently: some leave purification to investors, others publish amounts or consider it unnecessary. Which way applies to you, settle with a scholar you trust.

By their own statement, Zoya, Musaffa and Wahed offer a zakat calculator. We had no calculation method from any of them. Source (25 October 2026): zoya.financeSource (25 October 2026): musaffa.comSource (25 October 2026): wahed.com

  • AAOIFI: We could read neither the zakat standard (No. 35) nor Standard No. 21 (access form with sign-up). We therefore report no AAOIFI rule on zakat or purification.
  • MSCI · MSCI Islamic Index Series: Reinvested dividends are multiplied by (total income − (prohibited revenue + interest income)) / total income; MSCI attributes the principle to 'Sharia investment principles'.
  • FTSE Russell / Yasaar · FTSE Yasaar Global Equity Shariah Index Series: Section 4.4 speaks of purification of dividends 'at 5%', a ratio that calculates the recommended amount to be paid by the investor; the document gives no further detail.
  • BlackRock (iShares) · iShares MSCI World Islamic UCITS ETF; iShares World Islamic Multifactor Equity Index Fund: Dividends may include impure income, which is notified to investors; purifying it, for example by a donation, is the investors' task.
  • Wahed · HLAL: Calculated by Yasaar.
  • Wahed · UMMA: Calculated by Ratings Intelligence Partners.
  • SP Funds · SPUS, SPRE: The calculator gives an amount per share; the prospectus speaks of a monthly, the calculator page of a quarterly calculation. It weighs prohibited income against the shares held by the fund and the fund's holding period, not the investor's. Per SP Funds, shareholders purify by giving an equivalent amount to charity.
  • Wealthsimple · WSHR; Wealthsimple Halal Investing: A third party calculates the figures; published 10 to 15 days after distributions.
  • Zoya: Zoya names three methods: purifying dividends, capital gains, and an 'AAOIFI purification method' (purify the non-compliant revenue attributable to each share annually).
  • Musaffa: Musaffa says it calculates the amount 'using AAOIFI standards' and donates it to charities the user selects.
  • Islamicly: Ratio = non-permissible revenue including interest income / total revenue.
