Our verdict

Editorial verdict3.7

Plus500 is the right pick for a specific person: someone who wants directional CFD exposure on a phone, from a broker that is a listed public company rather than an offshore shell, and who values getting started in twenty minutes over having tools they will never open. On that brief it is a strong fit — the app is quick and well designed, funding is broad including PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, the USD 100 minimum is accessible, and the regulatory spread across FCA (509909), CySEC (250/14), ASIC (417727), MAS, CIRO and CFTC/NFA is genuinely wide. It is the wrong pick for anyone who wants to analyse before they trade. There is no MetaTrader, no TradingView integration, no API and no algorithmic execution; charting is basic; research amounts to little more than an economic calendar and sentiment indicator; and Plus500 does not publish a spread table at all, so you cannot compare its costs against a competitor without opening a demo and watching quotes. The inactivity fee of up to USD 10 per month after three months of not logging in is one of the most aggressive dormancy policies in our comparison — it punishes people for stepping away, which is exactly what a losing retail trader should do. Add a 0.7% conversion charge and a disclosed history including a 2015 FCA-ordered account freeze and a 2017 Belgian settlement, and the picture is a competent, well-capitalised broker with deliberately narrow ambitions.

Best for

  • Mobile-first CFD traders
  • Beginners wanting simplicity
  • Small accounts from USD 100
  • Swap-free trading (UAE and international entity)
  • Fast account opening

Less suitable for

  • Algorithmic and EA traders
  • Research-led discretionary traders
  • Long-term investors
  • Anyone who trades infrequently

Pros & cons

Pros

7
  • The mobile app is fast, clear and well designed, and consistently among the top-rated trading apps in both stores, backed by a Trustpilot average around 4.2 from nearly 20,000 reviews
  • Zero commission on every CFD instrument: no per-trade charge, no deposit fee and no withdrawal fee from Plus500's side
  • Licensed by FCA (FRN 509909), ASIC (AFSL 417727), MAS (CMS100648-1), CIRO in Canada and CFTC/NFA in the US, with Plus500 Ltd listed on the London Stock Exchange and publishing audited accounts
  • Account opening genuinely takes 10–30 minutes with electronic ID verification, and the USD 100 minimum makes it accessible
  • Widest funding menu of the three brokers here — cards, SEPA and bank transfer, PayPal, Skrill, Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • Swap-free status on request under the Plus500Gulf and Plus500SEY agreements, with a daily administration fee shown per instrument after a seven-day grace period
  • Free guaranteed stop orders on many instruments, charged only through a wider spread rather than a separate premium

Cons

6
  • The inactivity fee of up to USD 10 per month triggers after just three months of not logging in — not three months without trading. Three months of dormancy is normal, healthy behaviour, and charging for it is indefensible
  • No MetaTrader 4 or 5, no cTrader, no TradingView integration and no API, so algorithmic traders, EA users and anyone with an existing charting workflow are locked out entirely
  • Plus500 publishes no spread table. Costs are visible only inside the platform, which makes independent cost comparison against IG or CMC effectively impossible before you fund an account
  • Research is close to non-existent — an economic calendar, basic sentiment data and price alerts, with no analyst coverage, no screeners and no third-party news feed of substance
  • Around 2,800 CFD instruments against 12,029 at CMC and 17,000 at IG, with no bonds, no funds, no spread betting and no exchange-traded options for CFD clients
  • Disclosed regulatory history: a 2012 FCA fine of GBP 205,128 for inaccurate transaction reporting, a 2015 FCA-ordered freeze of UK accounts pending AML review, and a EUR 550,000 settlement with Belgium's FSMA in 2017

Stocks (per order)in the spreadShare exposure at Plus500 is normally a CFD with no separate commission — the entire cost sits in the bid/ask spread, plus overnight funding if the position is held past the daily cut-off. Plus500 Invest, a genuine share-dealing product covering 2,700+ shares, is offered only in selected countries and is priced separately. Figures here are for the retail CFD proposition run by Plus500UK Ltd and Plus500CY Ltd.

ETFsin the spreadETF CFDs, no commission, cost entirely in the spread. Plus500 does not offer ETF savings plans or fractional ETF ownership.
Options (per contract)in the spreadWhere offered, Plus500 prices options as CFDs with the cost in the spread rather than a per-contract commission. Availability varies materially by entity, and these are not exchange-listed options — there is no clearing house and no multi-leg strategy support. US clients access exchange-listed futures options through the separate Plus500 Futures platform.

Full review: Plus500

This review is based on official pricing schedules, legal documents and other available sources. It does not claim that we opened an account with this broker or tested it in practice.

Fees and what they cost in practice

Plus500's pricing is simple to describe and hard to verify, which is the central problem with it.

There are no commissions. Not on shares, indices, FX, commodities or crypto CFDs. There are no deposit fees and no withdrawal fees from Plus500's side. Everything the broker earns on a trade sits in the bid/ask spread, plus overnight funding on positions held past the daily cut-off.

The difficulty is that Plus500 does not publish a spread table. Spreads are shown only inside the platform's instrument Details panel, and they vary by instrument and session. Every competitor of this size publishes at least a minimum-spread schedule: IG quotes 0.8 points minimum on EUR/USD, 1 point on the FTSE 100 and 1.2 on Germany 40; CMC quotes variable but discloses averages. Plus500 discloses nothing you can compare before funding. That is a deliberate choice, and it is the single strongest argument against the broker for a cost-sensitive trader. We have deliberately recorded no EUR/USD spread figure here rather than repeat an unsourced number.

The charges that are documented are unfavourable. A currency conversion fee of up to 0.7% applies to the trade's realised net profit and loss whenever the instrument is denominated outside your account currency — the same rate as CMC, and just below the 0.8% IG charges on equivalent CFD trades. Overnight funding is added or deducted daily at a rate that varies by instrument and direction.

The inactivity fee is the worst term in the product. Up to USD 10 per month once you have not logged in for at least three months. Read that carefully: the trigger is logging in, not trading. CMC charges GBP 10 after 12 dormant months; IG lists no inactivity fee at all. Plus500 charges after three, for the act of not opening an app. For a retail trader who has sensibly stepped away from a losing streak, this is a fee for doing the right thing.

Swap-free accounts are priced transparently, replacing overnight funding with a daily administration fee that scales from USD 2 on positions up to USD 1,000 to USD 30 on positions above USD 500,000.

Safety and regulation

Plus500 Ltd was founded in 2008 by six Technion alumni with USD 400,000 of capital, listed on London's AIM market in 2013, moved to the main market in June 2018 and joined the FTSE 250. It reported revenue of USD 792.4 million and net profit of USD 281.3 million in 2025. A listed, profitable, audited public company is a materially different counterparty risk from an offshore broker, and this is the strongest part of the Plus500 case.

The regulatory footprint is genuinely wide. Plus500UK Ltd holds FCA firm reference 509909 with FSCS cover of GBP 85,000. Plus500CY Ltd holds CySEC licence 250/14 and is the entity most EEA clients are onboarded to — worth knowing, because the Cypriot Investor Compensation Fund caps at EUR 20,000, under a quarter of the UK ceiling. Plus500AU Pty Ltd holds ASIC AFSL 417727, Plus500SG Pte Ltd holds MAS licence CMS100648-1, Plus500CA Ltd became a CIRO investment dealer in 2025, and Plus500US Financial Services LLC is registered with the CFTC and NFA (ID 0001398) for futures. Cyprus is not the only EEA route: Plus500EE AS holds Estonian licence 4.1-1/18, so an EEA client may end up contracting with either. Beyond that, Plus500JP Securities Ltd holds JFSA registration 156, Plus500Gulf Securities L.L.C. holds UAE SCA licence 20200000232, Plus500IL Ltd is supervised by the Israel Securities Authority, and the Australian entity additionally carries FMA New Zealand registration FSP 486026 and FSCA South Africa licence 47546. There are also two offshore entities — Plus500BHS Ltd under Bahamian licence SIA-F250 and Plus500SEY Ltd licensed in the Seychelles under SD039 — where clients have substantially weaker protection, so it is worth confirming which entity your account sits under before funding.

Client money is segregated and retail clients have negative balance protection.

The history is not clean. In October 2012 the FCA fined Plus500 GBP 205,128 for inaccurate transaction reporting. In May 2015 the FCA required Plus500UK to freeze UK client accounts pending an anti-money-laundering and identity review, an episode that roughly halved the group's market value. In April 2017 Plus500 paid EUR 550,000 to Belgium's FSMA over CFD rules. None of these involved loss of segregated client funds, and all are more than eight years old, but a broker with three disclosed regulatory events in five years earns closer scrutiny than one with none.

Plus500's own disclosure puts the share of retail accounts losing money around 80–82% — the highest of the three brokers covered here.

Trading platforms

Plus500 runs one platform in three wrappers, and refuses to integrate with anything else.

The mobile app is genuinely excellent and is the reason the business works. Position entry is three taps. The instrument list is searchable and sensibly categorised. Funding, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, happens inside the app without a browser redirect. Alerts, guaranteed stops and trailing stops are all one tap from the ticket. It is consistently among the highest-rated trading apps in both app stores, and the near-20,000 Trustpilot reviews averaging around 4.2 overwhelmingly cite ease of use and withdrawal speed. If you judge a broker by how quickly a beginner can go from download to first informed trade, Plus500 wins outright.

WebTrader is the same product in a browser. Fast, clean, impossible to get lost in — and thin. Charting offers a limited indicator set with no multi-chart workspace, no pattern recognition and no depth-of-market. Order types cover market, limit, stop, trailing stop and guaranteed stop, which is adequate for directional trading and nothing more. There is no workspace customisation worth the name.

Windows Trader is a downloadable build of the same interface that adds essentially nothing.

What is missing is the whole ecosystem. No MetaTrader 4, no MT5, no cTrader, no TradingView integration, no REST or streaming API, no FIX connectivity, no Expert Advisors, no backtesting. CMC ships 115+ indicators and pattern scanners as standard; IG bundles ProRealTime free for active clients and publishes documented APIs. Plus500 offers none of it and shows no sign of intending to.

This is a coherent strategy, not an oversight — simplicity is the product. But it means Plus500 has a hard ceiling. The moment a client's approach outgrows a phone app, they have to change broker, because there is no upgrade path inside the platform.

Markets and products

Plus500 quotes around 2,800 CFD instruments across roughly seven asset classes. That is real breadth for a mobile-first product and thin against the competition — CMC lists 12,029 and IG around 17,000.

  • Shares — the largest category, covering major US, UK, European and Asian listings as CFDs. Separately, Plus500 Invest offers genuine ownership of 2,700+ shares, but it is available only in selected countries and is a distinct product from the CFD account.
  • Indices — all the major global benchmarks.
  • Forex — majors, minors and a reasonable exotic set.
  • Commodities — energies, metals and agricultural softs.
  • Cryptocurrency CFDs — a meaningful part of the offering in permitted jurisdictions, though not available to UK retail clients under the FCA's ban on crypto derivatives.
  • ETFs — CFDs on the major listed ETF universe.
  • Options — offered as CFDs in some entities rather than as exchange-listed contracts. There is no clearing house, no multi-leg strategy builder and no ability to construct defined-risk spreads. Treat this as directional volatility exposure, not options trading in the conventional sense.

What is absent: bonds and interest-rate markets entirely, mutual funds, warrants, and UK spread betting — so British clients cannot access the CGT treatment that IG and CMC both offer. There is no copy trading or social feed.

US clients are a separate case. They cannot trade Plus500 CFDs at all, but Plus500 Futures, run by Plus500US Financial Services LLC under CFTC and NFA registration, offers genuine exchange-listed futures across equity index, energy, metals, agriculture, rates, FX and crypto, and in early 2026 added Kalshi event contracts. That is a different business with a different fee schedule from the CFD product described here.

Canada now sits inside the tent too, following Plus500CA's CIRO registration in 2025 covering every province and territory except Québec.

Account opening and funding

This is where Plus500 is unambiguously best in class. The application takes 10 to 30 minutes for most applicants. You supply identity and contact details, answer the appropriateness questionnaire on trading experience, and are verified electronically against public registers — no document upload for the majority of EEA and UK residents. Funding and first trade can happen inside the same session.

Compare that to IG, where the appropriateness assessment declines or restricts a meaningful share of inexperienced applicants and manual document checks can add one to three business days. Plus500's onboarding is the reason it has been able to scale to tens of millions of registered customers.

The minimum deposit is around USD 100, varying by payment method and entity — higher than CMC's zero threshold and than IG, which sets no minimum and takes card payments from GBP 1.

Funding methods are the broadest of the three brokers. Debit and credit cards, SEPA and standard bank transfer, PayPal, Skrill, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Cards and e-wallets credit instantly; bank transfers take one to three business days. Plus500 charges no deposit or withdrawal fees, though your own bank may impose correspondent charges on international transfers.

Ten account base currencies are offered — USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CHF, SGD, PLN, CZK, NOK and SEK — which matters because of the 0.7% conversion charge on realised results. A Polish client trading in PLN avoids conversion drag entirely; the same client on a USD account pays it on every closed position.

Withdrawals return to the original funding source, generally settling within one to three business days, with card refunds occasionally taking up to five. Withdrawal speed is one of the most frequently praised items in Plus500's public reviews, and it is genuinely a strength.

The caveat sits at the other end: log out and stay out for three months and the USD 10 monthly inactivity fee starts, which quietly erodes an idle balance you meant to leave alone.

Research and education

This is the weakest dimension of the product, and the gap to the competition is not close.

Research amounts to an economic calendar, basic trader sentiment showing the long/short split on each instrument, price and volatility alerts, and headline-level news. There is no analyst coverage, no equity research from Morningstar or anyone else, no stock screener, no earnings calendar of substance and no scanner of any kind. Compare that to CMC, which bundles Morningstar equity research and pattern-recognition scanners across 12,000 instruments, or IG, which carries Reuters news at instrument level and owns DailyFX outright. If part of your process is forming a view before you place a trade, Plus500 gives you nothing to form it with — you will be doing the analysis elsewhere and using Plus500 purely as an execution venue.

Education is thin but honest. The Plus500 Trading Academy covers the mechanics: what a CFD is, how leverage and margin work, how overnight funding is calculated, how to set stops. The material is clear, short and well-written, and the fee documentation in particular is more readable than most brokers manage. What it is not is a curriculum. There is nothing on strategy development, risk sizing frameworks, position management or trading psychology, and no webinar programme or archived session library comparable to IG Academy.

The demo account is unlimited, funded with virtual money and runs on the identical live platform, which is genuinely useful — and given the absence of a published spread table, the demo is the only way to observe Plus500's actual costs before committing real funds. Use it for that as much as for practice.

The fair summary: Plus500 is an execution product, not an analysis product, and it does not pretend otherwise. That is defensible positioning. It is also a real reason not to make it your only broker.

Customer support

Plus500 runs 24/7 live chat, email and WhatsApp support in a broad set of languages — English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, the Nordic languages, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese and Japanese among them. Round-the-clock availability including weekends is better than both IG and CMC, which run 24/5 with only limited weekend cover.

There is no telephone support. Not a reduced service or callback-only arrangement — no published phone line for retail clients at all. For a broker whose clients are trading leveraged positions that can move against them fast, that is a meaningful structural gap. When a position is going wrong and the app will not load, a chat queue is a poor substitute for a person on a line, and it is the criticism most consistently levelled at Plus500 by clients who have needed urgent help.

In ordinary use, chat responses are quick and competent on account, funding and platform questions. The nearly 20,000 Trustpilot reviews averaging around 4.2 skew positive, with withdrawal speed and app usability the most frequently cited strengths. Negative reviews cluster predictably around spread widening in volatile conditions, stop-outs and the inactivity fee catching people who had forgotten about a dormant balance.

One consequence of the entity structure deserves attention. Support quality and, more importantly, your legal protections depend on which subsidiary onboarded you. A UK client with Plus500UK Ltd has FCA oversight, FSCS cover of GBP 85,000 and Financial Ombudsman access. An EEA client with Plus500CY Ltd has CySEC oversight and an EUR 20,000 compensation ceiling. A client onboarded to Plus500SEY Ltd in the Seychelles has neither. Check the entity named on your account documents before you deposit — it matters far more than support response time.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in the narrow sense that no per-trade commission is charged on any CFD, and there are no deposit or withdrawal fees. But commission-free is not cost-free. Plus500 earns from the bid/ask spread on every position, charges overnight funding daily on positions held past the cut-off, applies up to 0.7% currency conversion on the realised result of trades denominated outside your account currency, and levies up to USD 10 per month once you have not logged in for three months. Because Plus500 publishes no spread table, the largest of those costs is also the one you cannot check in advance — open the demo and watch live quotes on the instruments you intend to trade.
