Best brokers in Brazil

The Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM) supervises the securities market; the exchange is B3. Avenue and Webull serve investors in Brazil through a Brazilian company authorised by the central bank and the CVM (CVM Parecer de Orientação 33/2005); per Avenue, the US broker's own services are neither registered with nor supervised by the CVM. Under the current decree text, IOF on foreign exchange charges 1.10% on transfers abroad for investment. Anyone holding capital abroad of USD 1 million or more must report it to the central bank every year.

Tax notes

Net gains on Brazilian exchanges are taxed at 15%, day trades at 20% (Lei 11.033/2004); gains on spot-market shares are exempt in months in which total share sales do not exceed BRL 20,000. The domestic intermediary withholds 0.005% as an advance; losses can be offset against later gains of the same kind. Income from investments abroad — including dividends, gains on shares sold on foreign exchanges and currency gains — is taxed at 15% in the annual return, with no deductions (Lei 14.754/2023). Since January 2026 a company withholds 10% when it pays the same individual more than BRL 50,000 in dividends in a month (Lei 15.270/2025). There is no income tax treaty with the United States, so US dividends bear 30% US withholding tax; Brazil credits it only under a treaty or reciprocity.

Brokers that withhold tax locally

Our dataset records no provider as a tax withholding agent for this country. How you declare the income is governed by the country's tax law.

Private pension plan. Contributions are deductible up to 12% of the income counted in the annual return, but only if the person also contributes to the general (RGPS) or public-servant social security regime (Lei 9.532/97 art. 11). Payouts are taxed under the progressive table or, by option, under a regressive final-withholding table: 35% for accumulation of up to two years down to 10% above ten years (Lei 11.053/2004). What brokers in our comparison offer in Brazil

Only brokers that accept clients resident in Brazil, and only what a source documents. A broker missing from a row is undocumented — not a “no”.

  • MRP (B3, administrado pela BSM)Securities: up to R$200,000 per clientSource: bsmsupervisao.com.brAs of 25 October 2026

Per BSM, the Mecanismo de Ressarcimento de Prejuízos compensates investors up to BRL 200,000 for proven losses caused by the acts or omissions of participants in the markets B3 operates. The source does not say whether it protects clients of foreign brokers.

  • MRP (B3, administrado pela BSM)Cash held with the securities: up to R$200,000 per clientSource: bsmsupervisao.com.brAs of 25 October 2026

The MRP also compensates cash held in the investor's account at the participant, up to BRL 200,000, for B3 exchange and central-counterparty derivatives operations, on a central bank intervention or extrajudicial liquidation of the participant.

Such schemes pay when an institution fails and cannot return securities or cash. They do not cover falling prices.

US withholding tax

30% on US dividends: there is no income tax treaty with the US

Brazil is not on the IRS list of US income tax treaties (updated 3 January 2026), so the statutory 30% applies. Under Lei 14.754/2023 art. 4, tax paid abroad can be deducted in Brazil only where a treaty provides for it or there is reciprocity, and at most up to the Brazilian tax on that income.

Transaction tax

  • IOF – operações de câmbio1.1%Source: planalto.gov.brAs of 25 October 2026

1.10% on foreign-exchange settlements by which a Brazilian resident transfers money abroad for investment (Decreto 6.306 art. 15-B XXI-A as worded by Decreto 12.499/2025); for other transfers to one's own disposal abroad, art. 15-B XXI sets 3.5%. The current text refers to Decreto Legislativo 176/2025 and to case ADC 96 before the Supreme Court, whose decision we have not read. That the Brazilian FX institution collects the tax rather than the foreign broker is our assumption.
